About Us

Hello! I’m Laura, the owner of New Thornber, a lovingly restored holiday cottage offering family-friendly accommodation with a touch of luxury, tucked on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

I grew up just down the road in the local village, so I know first-hand how special this area is. I’ve always loved the rolling hills, wide-open landscapes and quaint little villages — and now, it’s such a joy to share them with guests who come to experience their beauty for themselves.

Together with my husband and our three young children, we still live nearby on our family dairy farm.

Country life had inspired me to create a place where guests can slow down, reconnect with nature and enjoy the simple pleasures of rural living.

Interiors and gardening are two of my greatest passions. I love creating spaces that feel calm, welcoming, and full of character — from soft, cosy corners to light-filled rooms that invite you to relax. I pour the same love into the cottage gardens, planting seasonal flowers and bulbs, and filling the vases in the cottage with freshly cut blooms.

When we bought New Thornber in 2020, the house had been empty for some time and needed a full renovation. Together with help from my wonderful parents and a few brilliant local tradespeople, we poured our hearts into bringing it back to life. The result is a boutique countryside escape that blends traditional charm with calming, modern interiors.

Lots of the cottage’s unique character comes from my family. My dad crafted much of the bespoke joinery, while my mum and I designed and made many of the soft furnishings and upholstery ourselves. These personal touches bring character, warmth, and a sense of care to every corner of New Thornber, making it feel truly like a home.

From the very beginning, our aim was simple - To create such high-quality, welcoming accommodation that guests would want to return year after year.

As a hands-on owner, I care deeply about every stay — from your first enquiry to the moment you head home. Whether you’re visiting for a peaceful weekend, a family adventure, or a base to explore the Yorkshire Dales, I want your time here to be truly memorable.
